What bugs the XXXX out of me is that the researchers refuse to acknowledge that the mice and rats go insane LONG before the population cap is reached. "Universe 25" was built for 3000 mice - their civilization went Fallout at 2000. To me, it seems like they realized there was no point to their existence, and thus permitted themselves to die.

I've always thought there was a fundamental flaw in this experiment. We are the owl not the mouse, this may or may not happen in a human Utopia. Mice are way at the bottom of the food chain and are not biologically and ecologically meant to have a predator free life. Humans are way way way at the top of the food chain. That being said uncontrolled population growth has had dire consequences to human life and this planet and needs to be addressed immediately.
